Final day in Ipoh and I just went to a local cave temple but it wasn't as impressive as Perak Tong that I visited the day before.
Being held in the city at this time was the 21st Azlan Shah Hockey Cup -
http://www.azlanshahcup.com - the Sultan is a huge hockey fan managed the Malaysian hokey team 20 or so years ago, while he also organised the hosting of the hockey world cup in Malaysia back in the 1970s.
Having never watched hockey I went along and saw 2 and a half games, entrance was free and with hockey a big sport in Malaysia their was a great atmosphere for evening matches. The sultan turned up to see Malaysia play but left disappointed as they got hammered 4-1 by NZ.
I took the bus back into town afterwards and as the only passenger on the bus ended up in a conversation about football with the Indian bus driver and his assistant. It's so easy to talk sport with people here.

It's not all cave temples, it's pretty industrial here too! |

Billboards with the Sultan of Perak on them were everywhere |
|
Very decorative but a bit tacky really |
|
It's gonna burn all the way to the top - saw the same thing in Hong Kong |
|
Chicken, rice and eggs in paper outside the hockey stadium |
|
Weird or resourceful? Orange juice sold in plastic bags rather than cups |
|
Azlan Shah it the Sultan and this is his hockey stadium |
