After discovering George Town the previous day I used the local bus to visit some other sites on the island.
First was Suffolk House - where founder of George Town Francis Light lived. The house has is lovely and has been beautifully restored. I was the left to my own devices to look around the house which also has a top end restaurant. Although the house looks great now, it was the before and after pictures (see below) that impressed me the most.
After this I went to the huge but slightly disappointing Kek Lok Si Temple, a huge colourful temple complex. It's one of the biggest in Asia and has a Chinese influence. In every room there was something for sale and it felt like a big Buddhist shopping mall in a temple.
Penang Hill offer views of the city and the peak contained a deserted old convalescence home that that British used.
In the evening I visited the beautiful E&O Hotel in George Town and drank and expensive E&O Sling in bar there. Ate some Wanton Mee noodles and sank a few Chang at the hotel.
My hotel was on Love Lane, the names comes from colonial times when many naughty couples used to hook up here |

I like the clouds in this picture. Butterworth is on the left across the water, and you can also see Penang Bridge stretching away across the water. |
